A hidden gem of metal and history
. Everyone knows the Book Tower in Ghent – 50 kilometers away.
But no one knows the metal book tower you will soon be sitting in: an architectural masterpiece from 1850, designed by the visionary engineer Théodore Lebens.
This place is unique: one of the first metal book towers on the European mainland – built entirely of cast iron. The building was designed in 1851 to house the archives of the Province. A revolutionary feat of technology, architecture and history.
Today it is a lively, stylish wine bar in an industrial masterpiece that remained hidden for years.
