01Why is Het Archief considered one of the best wine bars in Antwerp?

Het Archief was voted Best Wine Bar in Antwerp in 2024 and 2025. Guests come for a core selection and daily-changing wines by the glass, an extensive bottle list, personal guidance and the remarkable setting inside the former Provincial Archive built in 1851.

02Do I need a reservation for Het Archief wine bar in Antwerp?

No. Het Archief is a walk-in wine bar and does not take reservations. Simply visit us at Geefsstraat 5 in central Antwerp; when a table is available, it is yours.

09Can I buy a Het Archief wine bar gift card?

Yes. Choose the amount online, add a personal message and pay securely through Lightspeed. The recipient can use the gift card for wine and food at Het Archief.

10Where is Het Archief and what are the opening hours?

Het Archief is at Geefsstraat 5, 2000 Antwerp. We are open Thursday from 12 noon to 6 pm, and Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 12 noon to 8 pm.

11Can groups visit Het Archief?

Het Archief is best suited to small parties and welcomes groups of up to six people. We do not take reservations, so groups also visit on a walk-in basis. Sitting together depends on table availability.

06How many wines are available by the glass and by the bottle?

We keep a core selection of wines by the glass and add different open bottles every day, usually offering more than 25 choices in total. The extensive bottle list spans classic European regions as well as South Africa, Australia, New Zealand and the Americas.

14Is Het Archief also a wine shop in Antwerp?

Yes. Besides enjoying wine at the bar, you can buy bottles at Het Archief to take home. We sell a broad selection of Ad Bibendum wines from classic wine countries and lesser-known regions. We are happy to help you choose.

Yes. Het Archief works with Ad Bibendum and sells an extensive selection of their wines. Enjoy them at the bar or buy a bottle to take home.

17Is Het Archief a natural wine bar?

Het Archief is not exclusively a natural wine bar. We select wines for quality, character and drinking pleasure. The wine list includes classically made wines as well as organic, biodynamic and naturally vinified wines from different countries and regions.

Tastings & Wineflight

03Can I have a High Wine in Antwerp at Het Archief?

Yes, in our own informal style. There is no fixed High Wine package: create your own with several wines by the glass or a Wineflight, accompanied by cheese, charcuterie and small sharing plates. No reservation is required.

04How much is the Wineflight and how does the blind wine tasting work?

The Wineflight Quatrevins costs €24.50 per person. Taste four whites, four reds, or two white and two red wines blind. Make tasting notes, discuss your guesses with your table and afterwards discover what was actually in each glass. Order it at your table without a reservation.

05Does Het Archief organise wine tastings in Antwerp?

Yes. In addition to the walk-in Wineflight, we host a guided tasting every third Thursday of the month, focusing on a country, region, grape or theme. Advance registration is required for the monthly tasting.

07Can I eat at this wine bar in central Antwerp?

Yes. Our menu features cheese, freshly sliced charcuterie, pata negra, pâté, pork rillettes, Ortiz anchovies and sardines, olives and sourdough bread. Many dishes are designed for sharing.

08Are vegetarian options available and what about allergens?

Vegetarian options include the cheese board and olives. Please ask us about the current ingredients and allergens when ordering, as products and availability can change.

12What makes the Het Archief building unique?

The wine bar occupies Antwerp’s former Provincial Archive, designed in 1851 by engineer Théodore Lebens. Its original cast-iron columns, beams, vaults and spiral staircase remain visible and still support the building.

Het Archief is located in Antwerp’s former Provincial Archive, an exceptional cast-iron building designed in 1851 by engineer Théodore Lebens to store books and archive material safely against fire. 16Is Bakker Aldo located in the same building as Het Archief?

Yes. Bakker Aldo is located on the ground floor of the historic building at Geefsstraat 5. Aldo’s sourdough bread is also served with our cheese, charcuterie and other items from the food menu.

18Does Het Archief serve tapas or sharing plates?

We do not offer a traditional tapas menu, but we do serve carefully selected food for sharing: cheese, charcuterie, pata negra, pâté, rillettes, Ortiz seafood preserves, olives and sourdough bread from Bakker Aldo. Everything is chosen to accompany a good glass of wine.
